Platform supporting the recovery of full participation in social life for cochlear implants users.

The platform is used for active training of melodic contour recognition. We utilize 75 different melodic contours created from the sounds of two different pianos and the bassoon. Each melodic contour is available in versions with intervals of a semitone, two semitones, or four semitones

WORKING WITH THE PLATFORM. After logging in, you can perform the 18 TRIALS TEST. Select the button . This is the main button of the Platform and is used to test and enhance pitch recognition. TEST 18 TRIALS involves listening to 18 randomly selected melodic contours.

When you enter the 18 TRIALS TEST, you hear a melodic line. Your task is to recognize which of the nine panels this contour corresponds to.

The "play" button allows you to replay the melodic contour. You can press this button as many times as you like until it is fully recognized. Then, indicate the recognized melodic contour. A green circle (correct choice) or red circle (incorrect choice) will light up.

YOUR ANSWERS. The responses in the 18-TRIALS TEST are recorded and graphically displayed in the program as green circles (correct choices) or red circles (incorrect choices). White circles indicate no response (the test has not yet been performed). There are 18 circles (tests to be completed) - it is crucial to complete all 18 tests at once - only then is the test saved to the database. Now you know the origin of the name "18-TRIALS TEST".
INCORRECT ANSWER. If you did not recognize the melodic contour, a red button with the graphical shape of the melodic contour appears. By clicking on this button, you can listen to the correct answer. This part of the application is of great importance in the rehabilitation process. When you want to finish listening, press the large and proceed to the next melodic contour.
18 TRIALS (Randomly chosen melodic contours to be recognized). Your answers are recorded and will be used to create statistics, perform data analysis, and generate a report. Therefore, it is important to answer all 18 until the sign appears. This allows us to study pitch recognition with larger statistical accuracy. If the test is interrupted with fewer than eighteen responses, the data will not be saved and will not contribute to the statistics.
THE MORE TESTS THE BETTER. As with any exercise, the more time you spend on it, the better you get. That's why we encourage you to practice diligently. But don't overdo it – just complete one test of 18 samples (which takes less than 5 minutes) every day or every two days. This way, you'll obtain reliable statistics within a reasonable timeframe. Also, don't be too discouraged by wrong answers – this is typical at first. Stay focused and keep practicing. Each completed test of 18 TRIALS is marked on the progress bar, and after completing 25 such tests, you will receive a gift – a "star" in your account. Users with three or four stars usually show improvement in melodic contour recognition.
PRACTICE MODULE. After completing the 18-TRIALS TEST, you can access the PRACTICE module to listen to melodic contours of your choice. You can choose from one of two pianos (blue or green) or the bassoon. Then, select an interval: one semitone , two semitones , or four semitones . In the example shown on the right, a piano (blue) with an interval of 1 semitone is selected.

The practice module is available only after you have completed the 18-TRIALS TEST. Until then, this button remains locked.
Once the instrument and interval are selected, you can point to the melodic contour and listen to it as many times as desired.
VIEWING HISTORY. You can view the hisory of your 18 TRIALS TESTS - select the button . You will see the date and time of the tests taken and the score of the full 18. You will see your wrong answers as a pair of images: the first - the pattern played, the second (red box) - your wrong answer. The right answers are not shown graphically, instead they are included in the final score - the number of successful hits, e.g. "3/18 OK" or "15/18 OK".
RECOGNITION COEFFICION. We calculate the percentage of correct answers - this is how we measure your progress. Remember, however, that this parameter may vary significantly at the beginning of your work with the Platform (sometimes you will provide many correct answers in an 18-TRIAL TEST, and other times fewer). The significance of this coefficient depends on the number of tests performed - practice persistently, and you will see for yourself that the RECOGNITION COEFFICIENT stabilizes and begins to increase! You can track changes in RECOGNITION over time by examining DATA ANALYSIS.

For users with multiple stars, an INDIVIDUAL REPORT is prepared, which provides an in-depth analysis of your progress (it contains much more information than the RECOGNITION parameter but requires a significant amount of statistics). This analysis will be used in the future to prepare a personalized training plan. The anonymized data may also be used in scientific research and publications.
FINAL NOTES. Don't worry about your incorrect answers, of which there may be many - the first 18-TRIAL TEST may result in all incorrect answers! It's only after a few attempts that a few correct answers may appear - so practice a lot. Consolation: during testing of the Platform, we observed that even individuals without implants struggle to correctly identify sound patterns. The exception is individuals with what's known as "musical hearing" - for them, these tests are very easy.
